What is a M855 Green Tip?
These rounds, commonly known as “green tip” rounds because of their color coding, are designed for use with the AR platform in the popular caliber of 5.56. However, if you haven’t heard already, the ATF is withdrawing these rounds from the civilian market citing their armor piercing capabilities.
What is M855 good for?
If penetrating barriers or engaging targets out past 100 yards is your primary concern, the M855 will likely perform better for you. However, the M193 is probably a better choice for hunting, as it fragments more easily and causes more terminal effects in the intended target and an ethical kill.
Is M855 good for self defense?
M855 is useful in other situations such as punching through cover and concealment, but its utility in those situations means it’s not the best 5.56 ammo to use inside the home. This brings us to the last two rounds in our test, the 55 grain M193 and the 69 grain Fiocchi.
